Happy Valentine’s Day
Last evening I took a walk around my neighbourhood to click
pictures of shops decked in the conventional Valentine’s Day colours of reds
and pinks. I imagined the same merchandise in black, grey, silver, white,
brown, golden, orange, yellow, blue, violet, green, etc. What would my cat
Laali look like if he was blue? Or if the sky was green and the grass was pink?
Changing focus, as per European folklore, birds chose February
14 to annually pair off to build a home together to raise a family. The
sweetness of spring infused romance into their soft feather-protected hearts.
Answer to a Child's Question
Poem by Samuel Taylor Coleridge
Do you ask what the birds say? The Sparrow, the Dove,
The Linnet and Thrush say, "I love and I love!"
In the winter they're silent -the wind is so strong;
What it says, I don't know, but it sings a loud song.
But green leaves, and blossoms, and sunny warm weather,
And singing, and loving - all come back together.
But the Lark is so brimful of gladness and love,
The green fields below him, the blue sky above,
That he sings, and he sings, and forever sings he -
"I love my Love, and my Love loves me!"
