Update on the man who attempted suicide

He was close to death with shallow breathing and a stiff and cold body. The doctors at the hospital saved his life. His brothers didn’t want to shelter him as he is an alcoholic. His aunt wasn’t ready to accommodate him as the evening before he consumed pesticide, he had lost their bicycle. The villagers of that neighbourhood were getting ready to gather as a mob and beat him as suicide is a sin according to them.

Penniless, he went to one of his brother’s home and started drinking and getting drunk again much to his sister-in-law’s annoyance. They feel that the best way to solve this fast is to get him married. He has a five-year-old son from a previous girlfriend. As he squanders whatever he earns on alcohol, he can’t take care of the boy. The child is raised by his maternal grandparents whereas his girlfriend is happily married to someone else now.

There is a young woman who wanders about the village in a disoriented manner. She reportedly has severe mental health issues. The villagers criticize her for not oiling and tying her hair and avoiding a domestic life. I don’t apply oil to my hair either. His family wants to quickly wed him to this woman as they believe that marriage immediately cures alcoholism. They feel that this will also improve the woman’s mental health immediately. His birth family won’t have to look after them.

The man is also willing, provided she cooks hot meals for him every day. Do you think that this wedding will make him sober and give her sound mental health at once? How should alcoholism be treated?
