Morning Has Broken

Lyricist Eleanor Farjeon

Morning has broken like the first morning

Blackbird has spoken like the first bird

Praise for the singing, praise for the morning

Praise for them springing fresh from the world

Sweet the rains new fall, sunlit from Heaven

Like the first dewfall on the first grass

Praise for the sweetness of the wet garden

Sprung in completeness where His feet pass

Mine is the sunlight, mine is the morning

Born of the one light, Eden saw play

Praise with elation, praise every morning

God's recreation of the new day

Morning is the best time of the day not just to be in the proximity of greenery but on the very lap of nature. It’s soothing to walk barefoot on the lawn drenched with winter dew. It’s lovely to see flowers and leaves fluttering in dawn’s soft breeze. How refreshing it is to inhale the fragrance of the first flower of the morning and to see night flowers on the carpet of grass!

Come spring and bees, butterflies and birds will come to suck nectar from the colourful flowers! During the monsoon, it soothes your heart to see raindrops on various shades of chlorophyll from near.

We all know that being in a garden when the day is at its infancy is beneficial for all age groups for both mental and physical health. However, in a certain housing society, you cannot set your foot in the garden before eight in the morning. The sun is high up in the sky by then.

Is a society of a building complex allowed to ban its inhabitants from entering their garden in the wee hours of the morning? This residency doesn’t have gardens within walking distance and much of the natural vegetation outside the gate has been engulfed by the brick and mortar world. It’s unsafe to step out before sunrise for all genders.

What are your thoughts about this? Does your society have these restrictions?

An extract:

'What are you doing here?' he cried in a very gruff voice, and the children ran away.

'My own garden is my own garden,' said the Giant; 'any one can understand that, and I will allow nobody to play in it but myself.' So he built a high wall all round it, and put up a notice-board.

He was a very selfish Giant.
