Midnight Mass [Episode 1]

The series opens on the sea face of a glittering high rise urban landscape.  Minutes later, the camera shifts again to the deep blue but zooms out to a tiny island with a population count of 127. Crockett Island is lashed by cold gusty winds. It’s the polar opposite of those merry little isles with palm trees, warmth, sunlight that attract merry crowds of tourists from near and far.

Nevertheless, this island afloat in the blue-grey-green sea appears to be a cosy little town. People greet one another. A sheriff holds law and order there. A church appears to hold together religious Christians in fellowship.

It’s a town riddled with mystery and sinister urban legends. During the first watch, many may fail to notice the cryptic clues that are dropped in the dialogues and certain seemingly innocuous objects within screen view.

Meanwhile, a storm is brewing which is expected to plunge the town temporarily into darkness. Tempests in horror fiction may be devices to escalate tension or to signify terror, plight, our fears, chaos, disruption of order, change, trauma, death, sadness, emotional turmoil, etc.

  Man consumes pesticide As I write this, a young man is fighting for his life. He is an alcoholic and is always in and out of jail. This morning he put pesticide in his spirit and drank it. His body is turning cold and he can hardly breathe. He is in a queue for admission to the hospital for the poor where detailed paperwork is going on as protocols dictate that a police case must be registered before further proceeding. These rules delay saving those who attempt suicide. We aren’t sure if this was accidental or deliberate mixing. The treatment of patients who try to take their lives is shocking in supposedly good private hospitals as well.
