The Letters from No One

In 2021, we receive correspondence through Whatsapp messages, texts, personal messages through social media and emails. J.K.Rowling wrote the first book of the Harry Potter series in the 1990’s decade when we still received snail mail. We’d collect the envelopes with letters written in ink on paper from our letterboxes.

Harry Potter is excited to receive his first letter. He is an orphan living with his abusive relatives. He feels special to think that someone thinks fondly about him. He is curious to read the letter.

How do you feel for Harry who is repeatedly debarred from reading the letters sent to him? Have you sent and received letters through the postal service? What did it feel like?

  How do birds migrate without maps? Perhaps you are in a place where winter has draped it with snow, and its freezing cold; you won’t find food there. However there are places in this world where it’s warm; and there is sunshine, and plenty of food. What will your instinct tell you to do?
