Fun facts on kelp (big algae
seaweeds)
1.
There
are about 30 species of these, which grow along the coasts of cold nutrient
rich seas.
2.
They
are a wealthy source of food for fish and marine invertebrates.
3.
They
may grow densely under the sea forming an underwater forest.
4.
As
they make food through photosynthesis, they aren’t found in very deep waters
which are impenetrable to sunlight.
5.
Kelp
forests grow far away from mangrove forests, coral reefs, and seagrass beds.
