The only way to understand a
mental illness is to have it
If you don’t have depression, PTSD, bipolar,
anxiety, or many other mental illnesses, don’t talk about it unless you’re
going to lift us up, and especially don’t judge because you do not understand.
You may be empathetic, and I hope you are, but you do not understand unless you
have it too.

Even in 2021, when mental health has been extensively discussed, a lot of
stigma around mental illnesses still exists, the most incorrigible of them
often being religious people who pride themselves on being spiritual. This
leads to social isolation of those with depression, anxiety, and mood
disorders. They are often reluctant to seek counseling, and other modes of
treatment. No matter what these self-proclaimed godly people may rally, let
that not dissuade you from talking about mental health issues; and also being
open about the struggles you’re undergoing. You are not toxic for having a
mental illness, the people who judge you are, though they may be too egoistic
to ever realize how convoluted and regressive their views are.
