Who invented shampoo?
Shampoo was mentioned as early as 4th century BCE by
Greek historian Strabo when he was penning about how Indians washed their hair.
It emanates from the Indian word ‘champo’ which means to knead, or massage.
In the 1500s, Indians were using soap berry pulp mixed with
hibiscus flowers, and herbs to cleanse their hair. British traders who were
sailing between India and England, introduced it to Europe. The foremost
shampoos in the market were in the shape of bar soap. They started coming in
the form of liquid later.
