Cuckoos

Cuckoos are named so for the sweet sounds they make, which resemble the very pronunciation of this word. These shy birds are more heard, than they are seen. There are around 125 species of cuckoos globally. Most of them dwell in forests, and obscure themselves in dense vegetation.  They feast on insects, caterpillars being their favourites.

Certain cuckoos don’t raise their own offspring. They lay eggs in bird nests with similar looking eggs like theirs. While they are spared of the task of incubating, other birds warm eggs for them. Certain cuckoos, including road runners, care for their own eggs.
