Colour hearts

Symbolic Holi

Last year, just before lockdown started in India, Holi was played with great enthusiasm in my building. Maybe, similar play happened elsewhere in India in many places. Then within a few days, Covid cases started to spike.

We all have social responsibility to control this pandemic. The curve is inflating in India again. We have a huge population, and not many vaccines now. It’ll take quite some time for our entire population to be vaccinated. Even after the vaccination drive is completed, we may need to take precautionary measures.

This time, let Holi for you be symbolic, like it actually should. Instead of colouring people physically, colour their hearts. Add lovely shades of colours to figuratively brighten the lives of humans, animals, birds, and plants. (I DON’T mean splashing actual colour on them. Let’s do something to add happiness to their lives.)

রাঙা নেশা মেঘে

মেশা প্রভাত-আকাশে,

নবীন পাতায় লাগে

রাঙা হিল্লোল।

দ্বার খোল, দ্বার খোল॥

ওরে গৃহবাসী.

বেণুবন মর্মরে দখিন বাতাসে,

প্রজাপতি দোলে, ঘাসে ঘাসে।

বেণুবন মর্মরে দখিন বাতাসে,

প্রজাপতি দোলে, ঘাসে ঘাসে।

মৌমাছি ফিরে যাচি

ফুলের দখিনা,

পাখায়…

  Old English 1500 years ago, in the 5 th century CE, a Germanic tribe, the Angles, traversed the North Sea to invade Britain. The earliest of these attacks was in 449 CE.   Man consumes pesticide As I write this, a young man is fighting for his life. He is an alcoholic and is always in and out of jail. This morning he put pesticide in his spirit and drank it. His body is turning cold and he can hardly breathe. He is in a queue for admission to the hospital for the poor where detailed paperwork is going on as protocols dictate that a police case must be registered before further proceeding. These rules delay saving those who attempt suicide. We aren’t sure if this was accidental or deliberate mixing. The treatment of patients who try to take their lives is shocking in supposedly good private hospitals as well.
