Equality, not privileges I’d watched a Hindi film in which a child with crutches stands in line with able kids to participate in a race. Before the starting whistle blows off, a teacher snatches away his crutches, snapping that they aren’t allowed. Is this film Kunwara Baap? Please let me know, and help me identify the movie. In our society, mainstream schooling is sadly aimed at students who score high marks, and have great memorizing skills. Every class has diversity not just in colour, culture, economic/ social background; but also in talents, and learning abilities. However, we don’t acknowledge, accept, and celebrate the differences in academic and educational interests, learning styles and speed. Nevertheless, we go on saying that there must be ‘unity in diversity’ in India. Coming back to the film discussed, the boy with a mobility issue, had every right to participate with crutches. Denying him that, was a clear violation of the child’s and disability rights. Wh...

Crossed 800 followers Thank you! I’ve exceeded 800 followers in a little more than two and a half months on Instagram. I am grateful to each and every one of you for your support. I chose the picture of a snake coiled in the form of eight to illustrate this post. Multiply 8 by 100, and you get 800. In this posture, I also see the symbol of infinity. That gives me hope that my blog, will in future, have an infinite impact on people. This post with the picture of a long, legless, slithery reptile baring its fangs may get less likes. Some people may even unfollow me. However, I choose to upload this nevertheless, as snakes as well as the dove are made by God, and need to be welcomed equally on planet earth. #snakes, #serpents, #reptiles, #fangs, #scales, #slithery, #animals, #animalkingdom, #dove, #God, #creation, #8, #800, #eight, #love, #welcome, #planet, #earth, #zoology, #Instagram, #blog, #support, #infinity, #multiply, #multiplication, #fauna, #infinite, #blog, #picoft...

Ungrateful Tutu No matter how much you do for Tutu, she’s never pleased. She’s always complaining, and has a nagging purr which indicates that she’s wanting for more and more. There’s never a mew of appreciation from her. Bhutu is sweet, affectionate, and showers his pet parent with compliments. #cat, #cats, #catsofinstagram, #pet, #pets, #gray, #grey, #petparents, #complain, #compliments

Orange Dollop This orange fellow is a timid cat, who was very scared when pandemic first began in India in 2020. He thought, “Where’s my favourite fish? Why am I being fed cat food only, and that too with rice?” He would sit glum at the doorway, and wouldn’t roll on the ground with joy. Mashi would comfort him, “The world has changed, and we all have to adjust to the new normal. The bazaar isn’t the same as before.” When lockdown started, and our building sported a deserted look, he wondered, “What is all this? Where are the children who’d play? There were people who chatted down below.” I’d see a cat which was baffled, and anxious. Then, on the evening when neighbours were holding lamps, candles, and flashing mobile phone lights from their windows, we saw a shadowy feline figure run as fast as his legs could carry him to his safe hideout. On the late afternoon, when utensils were being clanged, he fled from the building, only to find that these loud sounds just followed ...

Family Birthdays during Covid Era My niece is turning 20 tomorrow. I haven’t met my friends, family, relatives, and colleagues in person ever since pandemic set in. I don’t know when I will interact with them face to face again. I ask all to stay home and stay safe till the situation is much better. There’s a serious vaccine and oxygen shortage in India.   My friend, and her husband have Covid. Her parents are also infected, and ill. I’ll write about the Covid situation instead of editing or censoring it even if I offend those who are thinking that I shun positivity, and should be held accountable for spreading negativity.   I cannot frame certain aspects about life in a ‘rainbows and unicorns’ hue now (this phrase has been used by Dr .  Ramani  Durvasula in the video in which she talked against toxic positivity). I love that video. Mashi returned from the vaccination centre today after having been given a coupon and being slotted 26 April, 2021, for ...
